Getting paid
Refund a client
Refund all or part of a card payment, record a refund you paid back yourself, and see how refunds work when a booking is cancelled.
You can refund a client from any booking they've paid for, whatever its status.
Refund a card payment
- Open the booking and select ⋯.
- Choose Refund.
- Under Refund amount, choose Refund full amount, or choose Refund partial amount and enter how much. You can refund up to what the client has paid, less anything already refunded.
- Select the Refund button, which shows the amount. A refund can't be undone.
The money goes back to the client's card through Stripe. The booking's payment shows Processing until Stripe confirms the refund, then Refunded or Partially refunded. The client is emailed if your Refund Updates email is on; see Choose which emails are sent. You can't start another refund on the same booking while one is still processing.
Record a refund you paid back yourself
If the client paid you outside butterbook.ing, for example in cash, and you've given them money back, choose Mark as refunded and enter the Refund amount. This only records the refund: no money moves and the client isn't emailed.
Refunds when a booking is cancelled
When you or a client cancels a booking paid by card, the refund is worked out from your cancellation policy and issued automatically. You don't need to refund it separately.
Packages
To refund the sessions a client hasn't used from a package, see Sell packages of sessions.
Credit notes
If invoices are switched on, each refund issues a credit note with the next invoice number. The original invoice doesn't change.
